Foreign Language Websites on Android – Language Support on Android Browser

For all those fellow netizens who are tired of seeing square boxes  ☐☐ when browsing through foreign language websites on their beloved Android tablets/smart phones, here is tweak for you. We hope this article will be helpful to all geeks who are using Android devices to surf locale sites/foreign language websites. You can try this trick to open any regional languages websites on Android device.  As Android browser doesn’t support many foreign languages, you need to install “Opera” browser.

  1. Download and install Opera browser for Android.
  2. In address bar, type “Opera:config” without quotes and hit Go.
  3. You will get the power user options. Scroll down below and select “Yes” for ‘Use bitmap fonts for complex scripts’. This will set the site rendering option to Opera browser.
  4. Now try to open any Foreign Language Websites. You can read all the text, no more square boxes  ☐☐. (We have tried opening Indian language sites such as Hindi and Guajarati sites and those are working great)

We have tested this on Android devices which are running on gingerbread; hopefully it will be working on older android versions, Froyo and Eclairs as well. Please try out and let us know, Comments are most welcome as always.
